Drug trafficking affects twenty seven million people world wide. This problem affects the safety and well being of many children around the globe, meaning that maybe even your loved ones or my loved ones could be affected by this. Twenty seven million people falling victim to this would apply to a conflicts theorist way of thinking because they would see this problem on a macro scale. I think that this problem should be talked about more so that it may bring more awareness to society, I picked this because I live in a house full of women and I would hate for something like this to happen to them or any other women for that matter. An believe that the "Freedom Project" is a good step towards a solution because when it comes to solving a problem you can only solve it one step at a time.

Sex Trafficking is a very huge problem in the United States, especially in New York. These young teens are being sexually violated money and also being deprived an proper education. Also in 2007 New York passed a law to stop sex trafficking and are forming the "Freedom Project". Twenty seven million young teens being involved in this Sex Trafficking in New York. A Conflict theorist would imply that this teens are being used as "Sex Slaves" because they are powerless to leave and being taught that they are nothing. Those that are in control dominate them by threatening there family and loved ones. I think that Sex Trafficking is a huge problem in our society. I chose this topic because i think its a big problem that we are facing in the United States other country's. A solution to stop this in my perspective would to have the media involved and to make it a grade A felony.

Sex trafficking is a problem here in the United States because children are being abducted, sold into sex, and being labeled as prostitutes when they are found by police. A conflict theorist would examine that sex trafficking still exists because the government is doing a poor job of maintaining this social issue. One solution to this problem can be through media. The media is a good way to make people aware that children are in danger and as a result make the city safer with more regulations and supervision.

We often here about sex trafficking in various countries but don't take the time out to consider that its happening right in our own backyards. Especially now, children are getting kidnapped and sold into the sex trafficking trade, essentially being raped for years until they are discovered and even then, they're arrested on prostitution charges. Since this problem is so widespread it affects everyone on a macro-level and questions the legitimacy of the judicial system. A conflict theorist would also blame both those pimps doing the drug trafficking and law enforcement for exasperating the problem. They would say that the law doesn't give the children a chance and just arrests them, knowing nothing about their story.

I've known about this problem for a while but I never really thought about how much of it is going on inside the U.S. Watching that news video really help shed light on how big of an issue it actually is. The bill itself would be a great help in not only reducing the rate at which this crime is happening but also helping the survivors by not penalizing them and giving them the services which they need. However, another step that would help reduce the changes is by regulating prostitution itself, because even though prostitution is illegal, it is also consensual between the two parties involved.

From this we have to look at it in a macro level because human trafficking is a social problem because 27 million people are affected all over the world. Innocent, young women are being exploited by pimps who are being taken advantage of sexual acts at a young age. These young women who are being used to for their sexual acts for their pimps to earn money is abnormal, especially the innocent young women are not gaining much at all. If I look at it in interactionist viewpoint, the pimps are not thinking of these young women as humans, they chose to do this to make money. The pimps care about the quick money they make through these young women. Money is the root for these pimps to continue what they are doing to these young women. This law would help the lives of young innocent women that supposedly being rescued by pimps who are trying to exploit them to sell themselves for sex. The pimps need to serve the time that they deserve. The solution would be to pass this bill and encourage young women that are being exploited by pimps to go to a help center or support group to let them heal from the exploitation. I commented to this topic because it is sickening to think that this is happening to our own country. This bill needs to pass so the rest of our states to follow this bill and it will be a constitutional law. Those who were survivors need to be the voice of power to encourage for this law to pass across our nation, so in the future pimps would not take advantage young women to sell themselves for sexual acts

Accroding to the U.S. department of health and human services, "Approximatly 600,000 to 800,000 victims are trafficked worlwide" they later go on to add that half of these victims are 18 or younger. Not only is sex trafficking wrong, its inhumane. sex trafficking is a growing problem that is happening right in our backyard, many of the homes these girls and boys are being held in are near schools and in very nice neighborhoods. I believe sex trafficking falls under conflict theory, which is that society will do anything to gain power money and resources. There are people in this world that are willing to sell mothers, young women and children to gain that power and money. A way that we can start to solve this problem is through education in school and in the media. If we can get people to realize that this is something thats happening and growing in this country and in the world, we can start preventing it from happening. there are programs, charities, and centers that are built to help end trafficking, bringing awarness to this can help build them. I chose this because i believe in human rights, and that on this planet living in fear of being taken should not be a reality.

Sex Trafficking has been going on for years, it has and will always be a worldwide issue. These females are being seen as if they are prostitutes; unfortunately as soon as they are detained they are automatically charged with prostitution. This is when “improving the law” will help because these young females that are being hold hostage will be able to fight for their rights. Such as they were not doing it because they wanted to but they were doing it because their pimps were forcing them. For example, Brianna the female they spoke about, she was able to give evidence about how the pimp was using her for sex trafficking. If they are able to present this, they will not have to deal with prostitution charges because they do not apply to them.
The main the solution would be to pass the bill, let the law start off in New York and moved down to other states. It will help and benefit a lot of young females that are victims of sex trafficking.
This is a reason why I choose this topic, I had began college I had met a female, she was very quiet, shy, I would always try to make a conversation with her but she make it short and simple. A year had passed by and she had gotten more comfortable with me, and she once told me if I could go over because she needed someone to speak to, I was pretty shocked but I accepted and went over. She then started crying was very scared and started telling me what she had gone thru. I would have never thought that she be a victim of sex trafficking. She did tell me that her goal was eventually to go out and speak to the public about what had occurred to her, but she was trying to overcome that fear she had still inside her. It was hard to hear her stories but we need people to listen and help.
Statically sex trafficking is increasing worldwide. It would be much help if they improve the law and have females go out and speak out. The theory that applies to this is conflict theory because it is something that people could fight about and make a difference in a community or even worldwide.

Sex trafficking is counted for about 9.8 million out of 27 million numbers of people in modern –day slavery across the world. Sex slaves or human trafficking, has an effect worldwide. In were a large variety of crimes like prostitution, drugs, violent crimes, smuggling, etc., are being committed by pimps, drug dealers ,criminals, human traffickers and all the people that commit delinquencies. This is taking affect in our modern society today. My view on sex trafficking is that people are very ignorant to pursuit ,the harm of some one else’s life. By forcing people to slave for sex, sex trafficking has created a major issue across many countries. Which in some causes prostitution is the way of life, were even the government is the one to blame. Do to the fact that in some countries, the grows of the economy is base on all the illegal trafficking smuggling, and corruption that happen inside the country. I think that conflict theory in these case is being abuse and in a senses that freedom for-self-actualize. Is been per trade as any body can do whatever they feel like doing at a high risk, even if the people have to pay a high risk by braking the law to obtain the a social power in society. Other social views like functionalist or Integrationist would look at this problem as a form of social behavior. I think that it’s a good thing that people are looking into changing the laws to find solution to this social problem. By imposing that people that break the law and get charge with sex trafficking will be charge with subjective to rape and a violent felony.

According to Annabelle M, “Conflict theorist would examine that sex trafficking still exists because the government is doing a poor job of maintaining this social issue.”
In my opinion, a conflict theorist would agree with you, but what would a functionalist say? One of the most famous functionalists, Robert Merton would look closely at the risk factors of Sex trafficking. He would look at what is causing the deviance. Assuming that the U.S. society value achievement leads to how successful an individual is, it would look at a bigger question of the risk factors of prostitution. What is the motivation behind these men to cause a dysfunction in society? Merton says it is a “combination of discriminatory environment and the socialization of strong success motivation forced on them by the majority culture.”
In other words, if these men grew up in an unstable home that forced them to miss school every day, then they will not become a “successful” function of society, so they would turn to something that is considered deviant to help them feel they are a part of something successful. Another risk factor could be the type of society these men grew up in. If they were to have grown up in society where men are supposed to be dominant, no questions asked, then that is there mentality for the rest of their lives. So in addition to focusing so much on the victims of sex trafficking, we should also focus on these men and women who feel it is ok to do something like this. We should focus on the homes and neighborhoods they grow up in.

I think sex trafficking is horrifying in a macro level because it is molesting females throughout the globe and causing them mental and physical damage. As I read through the comments, I came across Mariajose’s comment that intrigued me because she had actually met someone that had gone through this first hand and explained how sex trafficking can affected someone's self esteem. I commented on her entry because I felt like her point of view on how conflict theories would look at this topic was right. Like her, I feel the way we should fix this problem is to let the problem be known by speaking about it internationally.
Mariajose connected this problem to a conflict theory but I feel like it can be related to a functionalist perspective as well. Functionalist would take a Durkheim's suicide approach on the topic because women are being used as sexslaves to pimps, causing them to have too much regulations and look at fatalistic suicide. Functionalist will see this problem in a macro perspective since it is worldwide and feel like the population of younger women will start to decrease due to all the suicides that the sex trafficking is causing.
I think Mariajose’s proposed solution is possible but is very hard to accomplish because many females out there that have gone through sex trafficking are either too scared to speak up because they are afraid; to be charged with prostitution or do not want to relive the past they had to go thru. I also think the media will not pay much attention to certain individuals enough to make them worldwide so I support but think there are other solutions. Since the problem is worldwide, I feel the only solution that would change this problem is to get the government and the media involved. I think if the government makes the consequences of hosting sex trafficking a felony and raising the sentence in prison depending on how many lives you put in danger, the media would spread the word more quickly. Once the media has the information, the topic would go worldwide making other countries to start thinking about their point of view on the topic.

1) Based on what Kristine D said that “Innocent, young women are being exploited by pimps who are being taken advantage of sexual acts at a young age”, I agree with her because this is really happening in many countries where men see women as property and not as humans. I decided to comment on this peer’s entry because she makes a good point when she says that “these young women who are being used to for their sexual acts for their pimps to earn money is abnormal” and it is true because the men like to earn money the easy and not by having a good job because to them selling women is a job. I don’t think that selling women for money is considered a job. I think that this topic is a huge social problem because government should have a law or a solution to end sex trafficking is the states that are allowed to have it and apply the law to the rest of the states that don’t have it.

2) I think that a functionalist theorist would look at this problem as a defense of natural rights for women that are being sold for money. This is what Herbert Spencer would say about this social problem. He would also look at this problem as “organisms that progress through a process of evolution” which would mean that the women that are being sold to other men in other places are making the problem bigger every time a child, young girl, or a woman is being sold or trade in for money.

3) I think that her proposed solution is a good solution because by that law passing in all the states there will be less young children, young girls, and women being sold to other people in other countries. I think it would be possible to pass a law that would protect people that have been victimized by this problem because that way the people could get help in support groups, and help centers were they can heal from what they went through. Another solution would be to see were the men and children grew up in. If they grew up in a bad neighborhood then there us a chance that they will join a group of gangs or something. So depending on were they live will also depend on they will end up doing.

I am going to agree with Jenna N.

600,000 - 800,000 is a lot of people to call victims, this is no small issue, this is a big problem and in my personal opinion it is one of the biggest ones in our world right now because, like Jenna said, it's truly inhumane. It conflicts with our human rights and it's morally incorrect in every way. This has been a problem in our society for a long time, and every time we think it's coming to an end, we realize we're further from it than ever.
The solution to this problem, as to any major problem, is awareness. Through education people will know more about this issue. Many people might think they know what this problem is all about, but in reality all they know is the basic definition. We need to educate everybody about this, we need to present numbers and statistics and we need to find every way possible to end this.
While Jenna applied the conflict theory perfectly, and while I understand her point of view, I'm going to say that I think the best theory to apply to this specific problem is the functionalist approach because this is a social problem that is caused by deviance and we need to figure out what exactly is causing this deviance to occur and why these people feel it is humane to do what they're doing to these poor victims. Jenna is right, I also believe in human rights and she put it perfectly into words that on this planet, living in fear shouldn't be a reality.

I chose to comment on and respond to Emma’s blog entry because her analysis of the situation stood out from the rest. I agree with Emma’s views and solutions for this sociological problem. As previously mentioned by Emma and others, it is pathetic that these young girls are being charged under prostitution for things they were forced to do. It is almost as if that is their reward in turning themselves in to law enforcement. In the case of Brianna (the girl in the video), she could have simply been stuck to the prostitution charges had she not had sufficient evidence to provide to law enforcement agencies. Sex trafficking is a major social problem because it affects millions of people around the world as mentioned in the video. In my opinion, law enforcement agencies should be careful and not accuse the innocent in the place of the guilty.

Since the conflict theory perspective has already been discussed and analyzed by Emma, I will elaborate more on the interactionist perspective. An interactionist would signify the importance of how sex trafficking affects an individual’s personal behavior and ultimately result in an impact on society. In the case of sex trafficking, those who are trapped in these harsh situations go through tough psychological difficulties as they often times experience situations similar to or worse of being slaves. This changes or alters the behavior and personalities of those who are the victims of sex trafficking. These interactions indirectly but significantly affect society because people generally live in large populations and their behaviors and personalities are exposed to the public.

Sex Trafficking is a major problem not only here in the United States, but also around the world. In my opinion, sex trafficking should be taken more seriously by our government. Unfortunately, this is a major problem and to make the situation worse, there are too many criminals who fall under this category. Those in charge of sex trafficking could care less of being imprisoned for five years (as in the case of Brianna’s pimp). After all, they will be out again after five years. Lenient punishments like five years imprisonment reduce the fear of being caught for the pimps who are still destroying lives today. Since the situation is significantly important and dangerous, an effective solution would be to issue capital punishment for the accused pimps who are found to be guilty. Not only will this reduce the number of abused individuals but it will help prevent this epidemic from becoming worse in the future.

I agree with Julian T, sex trafficking is a social problem that affects the U.S. on a Macro- level. By not making the pimp's penalties more severe, girls will continue to be kidnapped and raped, everyday. If the proposed bill is not passed to stiffen the penalties of violent acts made against children, law enforcement will continue to act passive against this preposterous crime. Functionalist Perspective would apply to this social problem because law enforcement needs to be more educated on how they need to treat children as victims, instead of arresting them without knowing a back story. They need to be educated on how they can provide the services the children need to overcome such horrific experiences. I chose to respond to Julian's post about sex-trafficking because, I think that an immediate solution needs to be done about children being victimized, this problem has been around for too long to keep ignoring, I can't imagine how these children's future will be like if the right services are not provided. A solution to this problem is to make the adults responsible for this hideous crime, to have a stiffer penalty. This solution is needed because it will reduce sex- trafficking.
